Which are the Otterly AI alternatives?
The Otterly1, 2 alternatives the engines named most in October 2026 were Profound, Peec AI and Semrush: New Map's measurement3 found Profound named in 7 of 7 answers. Before you shortlist, ask the engines your own category question and log which names come back.
Which companies do the engines name as Otterly AI alternatives?
New Map's measurement counted 7 answers to "Otterly AI alternatives" across Perplexity, Gemini and ChatGPT over 2 weekly readings. Profound was named in 7 of 7 answers. Otterly, Peec AI and Semrush were each named in 6 of 7.
Scrunch AI appeared in 4 of 7 answers. Ahrefs4 appeared in 3 of 7 answers, and Rankscale in 1 of 7. New Map was named in 0 of the 7 answers. Seven answers is a small base, so the counts show which names the engines reached for in those weeks, not a market ranking.
| Company | Named in (of 7 answers) | Source and date | What the evidence says |

Which sources do the engines cite when they list these alternatives?
The same measurement recorded the domains cited. New Map's measurement found otterly.ai, youtube.com and ziptie.ai each cited in 3 of 7 answers. aiclicks.io, g2.com, producthunt.com, rankability.com and rankshift.ai were each cited in 2 of 7.
A wider reading covered 68 discovery questions about AI visibility tools (how New Map measures). New Map's measurement found reddit.com cited in 20 of 146 answers, 13.7%. That is one week's reading of 68 questions about AI visibility tools on 3 engines (146 answers), not a trend: Perplexity cited a source in only 7 of its 68 answers, and Claude Code's 10 answers are too few to read alone.
YouTube was cited in 16 of 146 answers, 11%, and wikipedia.org in 1 of 146, 0.7% (New Map measurement). Review and video sites, not encyclopaedias, filled the source lists in that reading.
The chart shows how many sources each engine cited per answer.
How stable is a list of Otterly alternatives from one answer to the next?
SparkToro's January 2026 study of 2,961 runs found ChatGPT and Google AI gave the same brand list in under 1 in 100 runs and the same order about 1 in 1,000. Peec AI reported in September 2026, across 120M chats, that weekly moves under about 5 points can be chance.
Omnia data via Kevin Indig found in May 2026 that 2.37% of cited URLs appeared in all of ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews for the same prompt, and 91% in only one (3.7M citations). On brands they agree more: Semrush reported in October 2026 that any two platforms share 70 to 78 of their top 100 brands, method undisclosed.
Chen and Koudas (University of Toronto)5 audited 300 questions in October 2026 and found ChatGPT follows the location an application declares, while Gemini follows the country of the network. Our read: a company named in 6 of 7 answers is a firmer signal than its position in any single list.
What goes with a brand being named in tool comparisons?
Otterly examined 5.85 million citations in October 2026 and found that pages ranking and reviewing brands in comparison were heavily cited by the most recommended names. Peec AI's May 2026 observational study of about 200K answers on 8 engines found rank 1 in a frequently cited third-party listicle went with +13 to +17 points of mention probability.
Chen and Koudas, in a preprint covering 158,099 answers, found that where a page came back in the engine's own search explained 32% of which pages ChatGPT cited within a site. All page features combined explained 2.8% (Chen, October 2026). Every page ChatGPT cited had been retrieved by its own search, on sub-queries the model rewrote for each answer.
On 2 October 2026, Ahrefs reported that only 3.4% of the 58 AI Overviews examined contained visible text that explicitly listed competing brands in searches for established names. A review of 57 source lists revealed only one competitor-owned domain appeared across them (Ahrefs, October 2026). Comparison pages on third-party sites carry the weight.
The diagram shows the path from a comparison question to a cited page.
How should you test an Otterly alternative before choosing one?
Ask four things of any name in the table: which engines it reads, how many answers per question, which languages and places, and which model versions. The studies above vary on each.
Version matters. DEJAN AI6 reported that table format won 31.5% of tests run on Argon. The same DEJAN AI report gave 93.6% for tests using 3.8 Flash. That result is specific to those two versions of Gemini.
Branded checks matter as well. Ahrefs reported AI Overviews in 82.91% of US desktop branded-keyword results as of 29 September 2026, up from 61.3% in July. Buyers who check you by name see an answer, not a list.
Its own result for this question is 0 of 7. The method is set out in how a brand's visibility in AI answers is measured.
The card shows how often a branded search now returns an AI answer, helping you test whether an Otterly alternative handles your brand visibility in AI results.
What to do
- Ask Perplexity, Gemini and ChatGPT "Otterly AI alternatives" and your own category question each week, and log which companies each answer names, as New Map's measurement did across its 7 answers.
- Open the third-party pages the engines cite for your category, starting with g2.com and producthunt.com from the 7-answer reading, and check that each describes your brand correctly and currently.
- Before you buy any tool in the table, ask which engines, languages and model versions it reads, and compare that with plans and pricing and the measurement method each vendor publishes.
