What are the tools to monitor Grok answers about my brand?
The tools to monitor Grok answers about a brand that engines named most were Profound1, in 3 of 5 answers in New Map's measurement2, then Semrush3 in 2 of 5. First, ask each vendor in writing whether it reads Grok answers.
Which tools did the engines name to monitor Grok answers about a brand?
New Map's measurement counted 5 answers to this exact question, across 3 engines over 2 weekly readings. That is one week's reading of 68 questions about AI visibility tools on 3 engines (146 answers), not a trend: Perplexity cited a source in only 7 of its 68 answers, and Claude Code's 10 answers are too few to read alone. Gemini gave 2 of the 5 answers, Perplexity 2 and ChatGPT 1. Grok was not one of the engines measured, so the table shows which tools engines name, not which tools read Grok. Method: how New Map measures.
| Company | Named in (of 5 answers) | What the evidence says it is | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Profound | 3 | Publishes its own studies of engine behaviour; tryprofound.com was cited in 11 of 146 answers | New Map's measurement, 19 Oct 2026; Profound, 13 Oct 2026 |
| Semrush | 2 | Published a guide to building an AI visibility dashboard; semrush.com was cited in 9 of 146 answers | New Map's measurement, 19 Oct 2026; Semrush, 12 Oct 2026 |
| Ahrefs | 1 | Named by an engine; its study of brand mentions is cited by Kevin Indig4, 5 | New Map's measurement, 19 Oct 2026; Kevin Indig, 12 Oct 2026 |
| Athena | 1 | Named by an engine; no further description in the measurement | New Map's measurement, 19 Oct 2026 |
| New Map | 0 | AI visibility software that measures engine answers about a brand; named in 0 of 5 answers | New Map's measurement, 19 Oct 2026 |
The chart repeats the counts: Profound was named in the most of the 5 answers, New Map in none.
Which sources do the engines cite when they list these tools?
New Map's measurement found eight domains each cited in 2 of the 5 answers: brandarmor.ai, finseo.ai, getrefine.ai, meltwater.com, qwairy.co, trakkr.ai, tryprofound.com and visiblie.com. No single source led. The set is mostly vendor sites.
Across the wider 146 answers, reddit.com was cited in 20 and youtube.com in 16 (New Map measurement). The same reading found Gemini citing 9.3 sources per answer and Perplexity 0.3, so the source list a buyer sees depends heavily on the engine asked.
Otterly6's October 2026 analysis covered 450,473 classified citations. In that analysis, paid publishers took 36.6% of them. Brand-owned pages took 38.9%. Our read: when engines answer a tool-shortlist question, a vendor's own pages and paid placements are a large part of what shapes the shortlist.
The chart shows how unevenly the engines cite, which decides how much a source list can tell you.
Does one monitor see the same answers in every engine and location?
In October 2026, Kevin Indig found that each citation across ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews appeared in only one platform 91% of the time. Presence has to be checked surface by surface, and Grok needs its own check.
Chen and Koudas7, a University of Toronto preprint, audited 300 questions. ChatGPT followed the location an application declared, down to the city. Gemini ignored declared location and followed the country of the network. The businesses recommended changed with the sources across locations.
Repeat runs differ too. SparkToro's January 2026 test of 2,961 runs found ChatGPT and Google AI repeated the same brand list in under 1 in 100 runs. A monitor that shows one answer once is showing one draw from a spread.
What should a monitor report once it reads answers about your brand?
A citation alone is not enough. Ahrefs found in July 2026 that 43% of answers citing a brand's own event page, across 9,886 answers, never named the brand.
DEJAN AI8's October 2026 tests on Gemini 4 Argon showed that pages displaying prices clearly won 99.7% of their trials. That result is specific to that version. Profound's October 2026 study found Sonnet 5.5 asked for reader context in 60.6% of answers, across 14,220 runs per model, also specific to that version.
Google's own report is not enough: Semrush noted in October 2026 that the Generative AI report in Search Console shows impressions only, with no queries, clicks or CTR. For the basics, see what is Generative Engine Optimization.
The diagram shows the loop a monitor should close.
What to do
- Email Profound, Semrush, Ahrefs and Athena and ask in writing whether each reads Grok answers, how many runs per question, and from which locations, before you compare prices.
- Write 10 discovery questions and 5 by-name questions about your brand, and run them on each engine you care about, including Grok, to get your own baseline.
- Compare your brand's pages and third-party mentions against the sources engines cite for your category, and check plans and pricing only after you know which engines you need covered.
Frequently asked
Which tools did engines name for monitoring Grok answers?
In New Map's measurement, engines named Profound in 3 of 5 answers, Semrush in 2, and Ahrefs and Athena in 1 each. The measurement did not record whether each tool reads Grok.
Was New Map named in these answers?
No. New Map's measurement found New Map named in 0 of the 5 answers to this question. The sample is small: 5 answers across Gemini, Perplexity and ChatGPT.
Was Grok one of the engines measured?
No. New Map's measurement of this question covered Gemini, Perplexity and ChatGPT. The answers show which tools those engines name, not how any tool performs on Grok, which still needs to be checked with each vendor.
